RESOLUTION NO. 051191

 

Recognizing Father Norman Roterts contribution to equality and justice for all Kansas Citians and his leadership in the areas of housing, neighborhood revitalization, education, and employment.

 

WHEREAS, in 1974, Father Rotert founded Blue Hills Community Services to carry out neighborhood housing priorities and in 1977, he founded Kansas Organizing Project, later to become the Kansas City CCO (Church Community Organization) to enable leadership development that achieves systemic improvements to the quality of life in Kansas City; and

 

WHEREAS, Father Rotert was a former board member of the Board of Governors of the Midwest Center for Holocaust Education, ReStart, Inc., Midwest Christian Counseling, Catholic Charities of Kansas City St. Joseph to improve the community in which we live; and

 

WHEREAS, Father Rotert is currently a member of the Advisory Board of Directors for the Central City School Fund and currently a member of the Board of Directors of the PICO National Network and Kansas City CCO; and

 

WHEREAS, Kansas City CCO, founded by Father Rotert, has achieved many accomplishments through the years and most recently created an environment that called for accountability and prioritizing of neighborhood targeted home repair, all of these working in tandem with the City; and

 

WHEREAS, throughout his priestly service in the Kansas City St. Joseph Catholic diocese Father Rotert has served a diversity of Kansas Citians who span the racial, economic and geographic diversities of the City; and

 

WHEREAS, Father Rotert has served steadfastly and effectively on appointed taskforces of the City and has participated and led civic efforts; and

 

WHEREAS, Father Rotert is still bridging relationships in the field of housing in Kansas City and pioneering effective strategies; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize Father Norman Roterts contribution to equality and justice for all Kansas Citians and his leadership in the areas of housing, neighborhood revitalization, education, and employment; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Father Norman Rotert in token of the respect and esteem in which he is held in the hearts and minds of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City, Missouri.
