RESOLUTION NO. 190359

 

Expressing congratulations to David O. Renz, Ph.D., a recipient of the Special Lifetime Achievement award at the 35th Annual Philanthropy Awards Luncheon May 1, 2019.

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Renz, has spent the past twenty-five years of his career building the capacity of Kansas City’s nonprofit sector. As the Beth K. Smith/Missouri Chair in Nonprofit Leadership at UMKC and as the Director of the Midwest Center for Nonprofit Leadership, (MCNL) he is widely recognized for his leadership in research, scholarship, teaching, convening, coaching and consulting; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Renz has developed a reputation for excellence in board development, and many of his articles on nonprofit effectiveness, governance and social entrepreneurship have been published by local and national publication; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Renz’s work has established MCNL as a valued and significant actor in the nonprofit leadership community and in 2017, MCNL conducted 81 programs and connected with 3,400 nonprofit and public service leaders. MCNL’S 2017 Annual Center Impact Evaluation, reported that 93% rated the quality high and 96% would recommend MCNL to others; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Renz was selected for this award because of the many leadership roles he serves throughout the community. Dr. Renz served as the Vice-President of Strategy for the American Society for Public Administration, an advisor to the Division of Youth Services the Local Investment Commission and participated in the United Way of Greater Kansas Committee and Governance Academy Planning Group; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Renz & MCNL facilitate strategic planning sessions for organizations such as Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, KCUR Radio and Kansas City Black Chamber and participated in various conferences such as the Philanthropy Midwest Conference in partnership with Nonprofit Connect and the Nonprofit Leadership Conference with Nonprofit Missouri; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby express their heartfelt congratulation to Dr. David O. Renz, recipient of the 2019 Special Lifetime Achievement Award; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof, and that a copy hereof be presented to Dr. David O. Renz whose leadership and governance expertise has impacted the nonprofit sector in Kansas City, and organizations around the world.
