ORDINANCE NO. 100925

 

Authorizing the Mayor, on behalf of Kansas City, to accept a grant in the amount of $230,409.00 from the United States Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women; estimating and appropriating revenue in the amount of $230,409.00 in the Domestic Violence Shelter Operations Fund; and designating requisitioning authority.

 

WHEREAS, the Court Training and Improvement Program (Court Program), created by the Violence Against Women Act of 2005 (VAWA) recognizes that judicial education and specialized court processes play an integral role in effective responses to crimes of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking; and

 

WHEREAS, the Council authorized the Mayor to submit the application for this grant by its adoption of Resolution No. 100386 on May 13, 2010; and

 

WHEREAS, this Court Program is awarding competitive grants, with no required matching funds, to cities who develop specialized practices and educational resources that result in significantly improved responses to domestic violence, ensure offender accountability and promote informed judicial decision making; and

 

WHEREAS, Kansas City, and its Domestic Violence Victims Assistance Program, was selected as a grant recipient, which will allow the creation and implementation of a tracking system for the most violent domestic violence offenders and will cover multiple jurisdictions; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

Section 1. That the Mayor, on behalf of the City of Kansas City, Missouri is authorized to accept a $230,409.00 grant from the United States Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women. A copy of the grant is on file in the City Attorney’s Office.

Section 2. That revenue in the amount of $230,409.00 is estimated in the following account of the Domestic Violence Shelter Operations Fund:

 

11-2470-135100- 476015 Violence Against Women Grant $230,409.00

Section 3. That the sum of $230,409.00 is hereby appropriated from the Unappropriated Fund Balance of the Domestic Violence Shelter Operations Fund to the following accounts of the Domestic Violence Shelter Operations Fund:

 

11-2470-135100-A-G13VAWA10 Violence Against Women Grant $187,941.00

11-2470-135100-B-G13VAWA10 Violence Against Women Grant 42,468.00

TOTAL $230,409.00

Section 4. That the City Attorney is hereby designated as requisitioning authority for Account Number 11-2470-135100.

I hereby certify that there is a balance, otherwise unencumbered, to the credit of the appropriation to which the foregoing expenditure is to be charged, and a cash balance, otherwise unencumbered, in the treasury, to the credit of the fund from which payment is to be made, each sufficient to meet the obligation hereby incurred.
