RESOLUTION NO. 200279

Directing the City Manager to identify three east-west streets for closure while the Mayor’s state of emergency proclamation is in effect during the COVID-19 pandemic.

WHEREAS, an amended emergency proclamation was signed by the Mayor on March 21, 2020, related to COVID-19; and

WHEREAS, parks and playgrounds are effectively closed in Kansas City, except for walking trails when there is social distancing; and

WHEREAS, the closure of three streets, one in the northland, one in the central part of the city, and one in the southern part of the city, would create a location for individuals to cycle, walk, run or gather, while avoiding vehicular traffic, so long as social distancing is practiced; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

Section 1. That the City Manager is directed to identify three east-west streets for partial or complete closure while the Mayor’s state of emergency is in effect during the COVID-19 pandemic within seven days.

Section 2. That one street designated by the City Manager shall be in the northland, one in the central part of the city, and one in southern part of the city.
