ORDINANCE NO. 120211

 

Accepting a $127,967.84 Violence Against Women Act Grant from the Missouri Department of Public Safety to fund domestic violence prosecutor positions in the City Prosecutor’s Office.

 

WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States passed the Violence Against Women Act of 1994 to assist states in providing high quality services that directly impact the health and well-being of victims of crime; and

 

WHEREAS, the Missouri Department of Public Safety administers the VAWA funds in Missouri under the title of the STOP Violence Against Women Grant; and

 

WHEREAS, Kansas City, Missouri, is an “eligible applicant” under the rules and regulations and will use these funds to provide specially trained attorneys to prosecute defendants facing domestic violence charges; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

Section 1. That the City Attorney is authorized to accept a $127,967.84 Violence Against Women Act Grant from the Missouri Department of Public Safety to fund domestic violence prosecutor positions in the City Prosecutor’s Office.
