Designating the month of October, 1990, as National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

WHEREAS, much progress has been made in this City to insure that our citizens with disabilities are rehabilitated, and thereby made productive; and

WHEREAS, people with disabilities, once placed in appropriate employment, are able to return in taxes many times the original investment in their rehabilitation; and

WHEREAS, not only individuals with disabilities and their families, but the entire economic structure of our community will benefit from their productivity; and

WHEREAS, it is appropriate that we pay tribute to the abilities and contributions of our disabled citizens; and

WHEREAS, employment is an investment in America's future opportunity; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council of Kansas City hereby formally honor our citizens with disabilities by proclaiming the month of October, 1990, as National Disability Employment Awareness Month in Kansas City and urge all citizens to open the doors of opportunity for these qualified persons and give them an equal chance to prove their capabilities in the workplace, so that they might gain dignity, equality and independence through employment.
