RESOLUTION NO. 051194

 

Honoring the Metropolitan Ambulance Services Trust for their efforts in helping the New Orleans EMS in the aftermath of Katrina and declaring September 29, 2005, as New Orleans EMS Day.

 

WHEREAS, on August 30, 2005, one of historys most powerful hurricanes made landfall in Louisiana and Mississippi with winds up to 120 miles per hour as a Category 4 hurricane named Katrina bringing with her destruction and death; and

 

WHEREAS, the death toll of Katrina has reached over 1,000 people with more expected to be found as the floodwaters continue to recede from several areas in New Orleans; and

 

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Ambulance Services Trust (MAST) has had four crews and units assigned to help New Orleans EMS for the last two weeks and they are rotating new staff into New Orleans for the next two weeks; and

 

WHEREAS, a New Orleans paramedic whose family moved to Kansas City has been hired by MAST; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby honor the Metropolitan Ambulance Services Trust for their efforts in helping the New Orleans EMS in the aftermath of Katrina and declare September 29, 2005, as New Orleans EMS Day; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to MAST in token of the high esteem and regard they are held by the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for the tremendous difficulties they have faced with the New Orleans EMS and their continued support for New Orleans.
