RESOLUTION NO. 160244

 

Honoring the City Planning and Development and Parks and Recreation Departments and the City Architect’s Office staff for receiving various Historic KC awards recognizing the departments’ impact on preservation efforts in Kansas City. 

 

        WHEREAS, Historic KC was founded in 1974, and since then has been the only greater Kansas City nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of the area’s heritage, neighborhoods and historic built environment; and

  

WHEREAS, on March 14, 2016, at Boulevard Brewery in Kansas City, Missouri, Historic Kansas City held its annual Historic Kansas City Honors 2015 Preservation Awards that honored an array of preservation accomplishments and celebrated efforts from a wide range of professions and disciplines; and

 

WHEREAS, the City Architect’s Office won an award for Excellence in Innovation of Preservation for their preservation efforts in expanding the Kansas City Police Department headquarters; and

 

            WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Department was awarded the Excellence in Conservation award for the JC Nichols Fountain and the Jane Flynn Merit award for the revamped Parkway and Boulevards Standards; and 

 

WHEREAS, City Planning and Development staff received the Jane Flynn award of Excellence for the Updated Midtown/Plaza Area Plan which recommended guidelines related to the area’s housing, neighborhoods, historic preservation, economic development, transportation, sustainability, open spaces and urban design; and

 

WHEREAS, City Planning and Development staff was also recognized for the work on the Troost Corridor Overlay District, with policies that seek to protect the historic authenticity of the corridor; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

            That the Mayor and Council hereby honor the City Planning and Development and the Parks and Recreation Departments, and the City Architect’s Office staff for their tireless work in the preservation battle to save historic structures and neighborhoods and to promoting preservation through planning and public policy; and

           

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the Director of the City Planning and Development Department, the Director of the Parks and Recreation Department and the City Architect from the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City.
