RESOLUTION NO. 100116

Adding support for amending state sales tax statutes to expand their potential uses to include public safety staffing and operations as a major City priority for matters before the 2010 Session of the Missouri General Assembly.

WHEREAS, the Missouri General Assembly convened its 2010 Session on January 6, 2010; and

WHEREAS, as part of its process for identifying major City priorities on matters before the Missouri General Assembly, the Council adopted Resolution No. 090930, As Amended, on November 5, 2009 in which the Council identified both the City’s major priorities and additional priorities and positions for the 2010 Session; and

WHEREAS, the Council recognizes the importance of giving its citizens the opportunity to consider expanding the potential uses of the current sales tax revenues for public safety capital improvements to include public safety staffing and operations that would enable the City to enhance the delivery of public safety protection activities for its citizens; and

WHEREAS, to do so, the Missouri General Assembly must amend current sales tax legislation enabling the City to seek voter approval for expanding the existing uses of the sales tax for public safety capital improvements to include public safety staffing and operations; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

Section 1. That the passage of legislation amending state sales tax statutes to expand their potential uses to include public safety staffing and operations is hereby added to the list of major City priorities for the 2010 Session of the Missouri General Assembly first established in Resolution No. 090930, As Amended.

Section 2. That the City Manager is hereby directed to send a copy of this Resolution to those Missouri legislators representing the citizens of the City.
