RESOLUTION NO. 100918

 

Honoring Louis “Mark” Govea on his retirement after 21 years of dedicated service to the City of Kansas City, Missouri,

 

WHEREAS, Louis “Mark” Govea graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelors of Landscape Architecture BLA Degree (165 hour program) in May 1978; and

 

WHEREAS, Mark began his career with the City as the Assistant Manager of Horticultural Services Division of the Parks and Recreation Department, where he directed all daily operations of the Forestry, Nursery, and Greenhouse Sections, as well as the Show Manager for the annual Kansas City Flower, Lawn, and Garden Show at Bartle Hall; and

 

WHEREAS, Mark promoted to a Park Superintendent in the newly created Citywide Services Division in the Parks and Recreation Department where added to his list of responsibilities was, the oversight of all buildings and structures, overseeing the operations of the City’s Public Right of Way mowing, Bruce R. Watkins landscape enhancement project and was named the Park’s Representative for the Emergency Operations Center for the City; and

 

WHEREAS, Mark served as part of the Green Solutions Program team for the Overflow Control Program for Water Services, assisted with the design of the Swope Campus Improvements project and worked closely with agencies such as MARC, MDNR, and USEPA on regional Green Solution issues. Mark also holds a seat on the City’s Green Solutions Education/Outreach Team as well as holding a seat on the City’s Green Solutions Infrastructure Team; and

 

WHEREAS, Mark looks forward to his retirement in order to spend more time with his wife Cindy, their three children, 14 grandchildren, their pet dog, Oggie, other friends and get involved with the Community; and

 

WHEREAS, October 31, 2010, will mark the last day of Mark’s career with the City of Kansas City, Missouri; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby extend to Mr. Louis “Mark” Govea, on the occasion of his retirement from City service, the heartiest best wishes for his future, together with appreciation for his 21 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Kansas City; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Mr. Louis “Mark” Govea in token of their respect and high regard and their best wishes for the long and happy retirement which he so richly deserves.
