RESOLUTION NO. 100697

 

Directing the City Manager to seek an intergovernmental agreement with the Kansas City Board of Police Commissioners for increased uniform police officers during the 15 years of the proposed public safety sales tax and for implementing a new study to recommend staffing levels for uniformed police officers.

 

WHEREAS, the voters of Kansas City will have before them on November 2 the question of extending a capital improvements sales tax for public safety purposes for a 15-year term; and

 

WHEREAS, during the deliberations of the sales tax renewal the need for more uniformed police officers has been a matter of agreement between the City and the Board; and

 

WHEREAS, the Board has presented a plan for adding new officers; and

 

WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to continue the cooperative spirit with the Board and to better assist the Board in meeting its important responsibilities to the people of Kansas City; NOW, THEREFORE

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

Section 1. That the City Manager is directed to seek for presentation to the City Council an intergovernmental agreement with the Kansas City Board of Police Commissioners for increased uniform police officers during the 15 years of the proposed public safety sales tax.

 

Section 2. That the City Manager is directed to seek an intergovernmental agreement with the Kansas City Board of Police Commissioners to update the 2000 study of appropriate needs or staffing for uniformed police officers by implementing a new objective study to recommend staffing levels for uniformed police officers.
