RESOLUTION NO. 050275
Directing the City Manager to
utilize the services of credit reporting agencies as part of the Citys efforts
to collect delinquent bills, fines, taxes and special assessments owed the
City.
WHEREAS, the
City needs to use its best efforts and available resources to maximize its
collection of delinquent bills, fines, taxes and special assessments; and
WHEREAS, there
exist credit reporting services that collect and maintain information
concerning the credit history of individuals, including an individuals history
of nonpayment of delinquent bills, fines, taxes and special assessments owed to
governmental entities; and
WHEREAS, the
Citys reporting of such information to credit reporting services may cause
individuals owing the City to voluntarily pay the City rather than having their
credit rating impacted; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED
BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
Section 1. That
the Mayor and Council hereby direct the City Manager to identify the three leading
national credit reporting services and determine the costs and advisability of
contracting with one or more of those credit reporting services to receive and
report information from the City regarding persons owing the City for
delinquent bills, fines, taxes and special assessments.
Section 2. That
the Mayor and Council hereby direct the City Manager to implement or modify
administrative procedures so that information regarding delinquent bills,
fines, taxes and special assessments owed to the City are regularly transmitted
to these credit reporting services.
Section 3. That
the Mayor and Council hereby direct the City Manager to report to them within
90 days of the passage of this Resolution the Citys efforts to comply with
this Resolution.
