RESOLUTION NO. 100796

 

Designating September 15, 2010 through October 15, 2010, as Hispanic Heritage Month.

 

  WHEREAS, National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15, 2010 through October 15, 2010; and

 

WHEREAS, Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to increase understanding, communication, and respect between communities while fostering pride in Hispanic/Latino culture by reaffirming the role of Hispanics in the development of our nation, its history, traditions and values; and

WHEREAS, Hispanics have significantly contributed in all aspects of the development of the United States of America and played an important role in the early exploration and settlement of our nation; and

WHEREAS, elected officials of the City of Kansas City, Missouri recognize and support the celebration of Hispanic/Latino cultures and traditions and reaffirms our commitment to eliminate all residues of prejudice and be more receptive to the richness of diverse cultures; and

  WHEREAS, Kansas City must continue to search for innovative ways in which government and community can work in partnership to ensure that all Americans benefit from resulting improvements; NOW, THEREFORE,

  BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

  That the Mayor and Council hereby designate September 15, 2010 through October 15, 2010 as Hispanic Heritage Month in Kansas City, Missouri; and, urge all citizens to reflect on the Hispanic Heritage of our nation and share in the rich diversity, prosperity, and abundance of our great country; and

  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that copies hereof be presented in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month.
