RESOLUTION NO. 930054

 

Congratulating and commending Miss Alycia L. Simpson on her selection as Miss Black Missouri and wishing her well in the upcoming Miss Black USA Pageant on February 28, 1993.

 

WHEREAS, the Miss Black USA Scholarship Pageant is the illustrious national competition that provides a broad platform for young minority women to display their talents, win scholarships, prizes and travel opportunities; and

 

WHEREAS, an excellent candidate for winning this coveted title comes from Kansas City, Missouri and is currently Miss Black Missouri Alycia Simpson; and

 

WHEREAS, Alycia, 25, will represent the State of Missouri in the 1993 competition on February 28, 1993 in Washington, D.C.; and

 

WHEREAS, Alycia received a Bachelor of Science degree in communications in 1989 from the University of Iowa, where she attended the University on a four-year athletic scholarship. She plans to pursue a career in corporate litigation; and

 

WHEREAS, Alycia Simpson's athletic prowess led her to compete in the 1984 and 1988 Olympic trials; and

 

WHEREAS, Alycia was the first Black contestant in the Miss Iowa USA Pageant; and

 

WHEREAS, Alycia is the daughter of Artis Simpson of Minneapolis and Helen Simpson of Des Moines, Iowa; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate and commend Miss Alycia L. Simpson on her recent selection as Miss Black Missouri, and wish her well in the upcoming Miss Black USA Pageant; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof, and that a copy hereof be presented to Miss Simpson in token of the Mayor and Council's recognition of the outstanding qualities which have brought this beautiful, talented and bright young woman to possibly the reigning position of Miss Black USA 1993.
