RESOLUTION NO. 010652

 

Declaring April 26, 2001, the ninth annual Take Our Daughters to Work Day.

 

WHEREAS, Take Our Daughters to Work Day is held on the fourth Thursday of every year in the month of April; and

 

WHEREAS, the ninth annual Take Our Daughters to Work Day falls on April 26, 2001; and

 

WHEREAS, Take Our Daughters to Work Day was established by the Ms. Foundation for Women, which is a national, multi-issue organization that supports the efforts of women and girls to shape their own destinies and influence the world around them; and

 

WHEREAS, research proves that adolescence is the time when girls are blooming into young ladies and determining their plight in life; and

 

WHEREAS, working alongside adult mentors who provide guidance and encouragement helps adolescent girls develop self-confidence and resilience; and

 

WHEREAS, Take Our Daughters to Work Day helps prepare girls for leadership roles in the 21st century by introducing them to the many career opportunities now available to them by celebrating womens contributions to the workforce and economy; and

 

WHEREAS, the girl force of today, is the work force of tomorrow; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby declare April 26, 2001, Take Our Daughters to Work Day and welcome all young women who are joining our workforce on this special day; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that copies hereof be presented to Bonnie Jackson, Event Co-Chair and Brenda Andrews, Event Co-Chair; Peggy Doty, Chair of the City Employees Womens Group; and to the City Employees Womens Group in recognition of the importance of womens role in the workplace.
