Recognizing Jessie Nave-Carpenter, Ada Hill, Janet Parrette and Joseph Redden on the occasion of their retirement from Chester A. Franklin School.


WHEREAS, Jesse Nave-Carpenter has been a teacher and administrator for thirty-three (33 years), having been the Principal of C.A. Franklin School for fifteen (15) of those years and has been involved in a number of civic activities including Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, the NAACP and the Links, Inc. She also has received such awards as the Woman Courage Award, Woman of Accomplishment Award and Outstanding Volunteer Award from Delta Sigma Theta, and the Francis Willard School PTA Award; and


WHEREAS, Ada Hill began her career with the Kansas City School District in 1970 and after twenty-five (25) years of service is retiring from her position as the Cafeteria Manager of C.A. Franklin School. During her career, she worked at Douglass, Pershing, Willard and Bancroft Schools, further devoting her talents to the Kansas City, Missouri School District; and


WHEREAS, Janet Parrette began her teaching experience at W.W. Yates and Graceland Elementary Schools in 1964 and seized the opportunity to be a part of the new C.A. Franklin School in 1968 when it first opened. Since that time she has occupied a number of positions including head teacher, fifth grade team leader, and mentor for student teachers and has been active in many civic organizations including Phi Delta Kappa, Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, and Jack and Jill of America (Johnson County Chapter charter member); and


WHEREAS, Joseph Redden began his teaching and coaching career at Sumner High School in Kansas City, Kansas in 1958 and occupied several teaching and administrative positions thereafter including having worked at Coronado Junior High and Washington High School. Mr. Redden has also served in the United States Army and played professional football in Toronto, Canada, afterwards deciding to dedicate his professional life to the field of education; and


WHEREAS, together, these outstanding individual have dedicated over 100 years of service to the community and academia; NOW, THEREFORE,




That the Mayor and Council do hereby recognize and commend Jesse-Nave Carpenter, Ada Hill, Janet Parrette, and Joseph Redden on the occasion of their retirement; and


BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and copies be presented to them wishing them a long and prosperous retirement.
