Description: Principal advisory arm of the city in matters of design and visual elements of public buildings and privately owned structures encroaching on public property. Sec. 1136. Commission established. There shall be a Municipal Art Commission consisting of the Mayor or the Mayor’s designee, who shall be its chair, and the chair of the City Plan Commission or another member of the City Plan Commission designated by the chair of the City Plan Commission, ex-officio, the President of the Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners or another member of the Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners designated by the president of the Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners, ex-officio, and six other members and six alternate members appointed by the Mayor for terms of four years, who shall be persons competent to determine the artistic value of works of art. APPOINTMENT PROCESS: Mayor appoints 6 voting members and non-specified number of advisory members. The Mayor, President of the Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners, and the Chair of the City Plan Commission or their appointees are all ex-officio members of the Commission. NUMBER OF CITY MEMBERS: 6 TERM: 4 years
